Happy Birthday to all my March-born fans!  Welcome to the March birthstones post filled with dragons on that theme by artists I love to feature as well as brand new discoveries.  To kick off this month’s very blue post, check out this Aquamarine Dragon by one of my favorites, the amazing professional artist Candice C. Sciortino, who posts as Mythka.  You can check out her many-year archive of dragons-a-day in her gallery.

Aquamarine (from Latin: aqua marina, being, water : sea, i.e. sea water, marīna, from marīnus; of the sea.) is a blue or cyan variety of beryl. It occurs at most localities which yield ordinary beryl.

The largest aquamarine of gemstone quality ever mined was found in Marambaia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1910. It weighed over 110 kg (240 lb), and its dimensions were 48.5 cm (19 in) long and 42 cm (17 in) in diameter. The largest cut aquamarine gem is the Dom Pedro aquamarine, now housed in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History.

Up next is another Aquamarine by American deviantartist Frances Lane.  I love the detail of the crystals, because as my last featured artist today points out, natural aquamarine is formed in these “tower-like structures.”  This is only one of some amazing gemstone dragons in Frances’ gallery, so check them out, and also follow her on Tumblr for more.

Then back again is the ever-creative American artist and crafter Amaze-ing Hats, with this March Dragon in aquamarine colors.  You can find more creations in her gallery and order something for yourself in Etsy store — I mean, who doesn’t need a little crocheted dragon to add to their collection?

Then back to traditional art, this is a watercolor and colored pencil piece with “salt resist effects” called Aquamarine by U.K. deviantartist dawndelver.  The detail in the scales here is really lovely — just like in her February Amethyst piece! — so click the original link to zoom in.  She writes that she “wants a pet dragon” — me too!  Check out her gallery, follow her on Instagram, and order from her Redbubble shop.

Next we have a piece called Birthstone Series – Aquamarine by American deviantartist Ahr0, who also posts at ahrodesigns, which is where you can find her Chibi version of this dragon.  I do love my feather-winged dragons!  You can follow her on Tumblr and Twitter, and check out her gallery for more.

And of course, I have to share another of my favorite artists, especially when it’s this cute birthstone dragon for March!  This is another lovely creation by American professional artist Lindy Briggs of How Many Dragons, and you can see more sculptures in her gallery, or commission your own from her Etsy shop!  You can even see her in person — check out her 2018 Convention Schedule to see where she’ll be!

Up next is Aquamarine by Canadian deviantartist Lunoxius.  Part of a set with her Garnet dragon I shared in January, her caption here reads, “Got to use Fluffy Watercolours and focus more on bright, ocean colours and shape. I went with a seahorse theme on this one.”  I have to admit, it looks a little bit like a Pokemon Eevee-loution to me… but the more I look, the more I appreciate the simplicity and seahorse/dragon mix, and it’s now one of my favorites of this post.  Check out her gallery for more.

And finally, here is a unique dragon type called Aquamarine by American deviantartist SkyGazerr.  Her caption will be a great closing to this post, so I’ve posted it below, and be sure to check out her gallery for more great artwork.

March, March, the month of fresh winds and clear breath. The time of changing light and crisp air. Health, Courage, and longevity. Aquamarine is this month’s birth stone.

Aquamarine is a quite beautiful stone and naturally grows in those tower-like structures. This dragon’s design is built around the idea of this stone. The underwater design is to exaggerate the “marine” in aquamarine, even though the stone is not usually found underwater. As the month is known for courage, the creature is well protected by a shell and has little fear of dangers. However, the month is also known for health so the creature is not a predator and instead a slow turtle-like being.

I hope everyone is having a great March so far, and perhaps you’re looking forward to this Saturday and St. Patrick’s Day as much as I am?  Since the birthstone post was scheduled for this week, look for my St. Pat’s dragon(s) on March 18, already prepped and ready to post on Sunday morning, when I’m sure I’ll be sleeping off Saturday’s festivities!
