To commemorate our twelve sixteen hour road trip today (counting traffic and stops for food/etc.), driving from Minneapolis, MN to Nashville, TN (and writing a good deal of this from the back seat!), here is an awesome Dragon Mutant Vehicle in a photo taken by Curtis Mekemson at the legendary festival called Burning Man in the Nevada desert in 2014.
Curtis and his wife Peggy have their own blog of cool travel photos and experiences at Wandering through Time and Place, and I found Curtis’s photo of this dragon in his post from September 25, 2014, called A Giant Rhino, an All-Seeing Eye and Other Mutant Vehicles of Burning Man 2014. He also included another Dragon Mutant Vehicle photo taken by another photographer, Tom Lovering, from that same year:
These are two amazing dragons, and you can see even more cool Mutant Vehicles from 2014 at that link above.
I first learned about the Mutant Vehicles at Burning Man when I found this last Dragon Mutant Vehicle from the 2010 festival at the Flickr of Scottish photographer bownose:
I think these are all pretty awesome, and I’m glad I get to share them with you tonight. This was supposed to be a much longer post, not just showing you the pictures, but also telling you all about Burning Man and the Mutant Vehicles, but today I discovered the downside of trying to blog while driving cross-country.
I had been working for about an hour and a half, typing up this beautiful and informative post, when WordPress suddenly errored-out and I completely lost all my text. Has that ever happened to anyone else? Anyway, I was so disheartened that I couldn’t bring myself to recreate it and had to put my writing aside for the rest of the drive.
Now that we’ve finally made it to Nashville (and the AirBnB is amazing, by the way!), and since we’ve got to get an early start in the morning, I’ll just be happy with the pictures, and I’ll leave the rest of that story, and all the cool things I learned about Burning Man, for another time.
Vacation Day 1 is in the books. Tomorrow’s post is already written and scheduled, about a cool dragon sculpture I discovered (online) that’s right here in Nashville, so look for that around noon CST. Goodnight all, stay creative!
