Thursday Writing Thoughts: A writer doesn’t dream of riches…

CK Webb Quote

A writer doesn’t dream of riches and fame, though those things are nice. A true writer longs to leave behind a piece of themselves, something that withstands the test of time and is passed down for generations.

— C.K. Webb

All right, so I know this is true in my heart… but to be honest, paying for a vacation is expensive, so I wouldn’t mind a little bit of riches coming my way from my writing either!

But alas, I haven’t even been writing as much as I would like to lately, because life keeps getting in the way, and I know that I’m only going to be successful if I buckle down and start putting in the hours in front of my keyboard.

Then maybe someday I’ll get my first draft of Finding Dragons finished, or I’ll get further in Neeka’s Story, or perhaps I could even go back to trying my hand at article writing, even though I’ve never had anything accepted for publication or been paid for my freelance work.

That’s the only way I’ll ever create something that “withstands the test of time,” as Webb says.  Someday I’d love for my novel trilogy to be read by generations of fantasy readers just as Anne McCaffrey’s Pern series is, or how Todd Lockwood’s series The Evertide, which is just starting out, surely will be.

But that’s a long way off.  For now, I just need to keep writing, and keep dreaming — of leaving behind a piece of myself, of course, but also of just a little bit of fortune and glory too!  It is a dream, after all!

Today’s artwork is Two Dollar Chinese Dragon by American deviantartist Won Park, posting as orudorumagi11.  This is an amazing piece of origami using two $1 bills, and he has an extensive gallery of even more intricate designs that you should really check out.

Thanks everyone for reading!  I hope you’re having a fun time playing Pokemon Go, I know I am!  Go Team Mystic!  Take care and stay creative!
