I’m a bit late, but my vacation was totally worth it so I hope you’ll forgive me!  I’m going to keep this short and instead of sharing a quote on writing this month, I’ll share a poem I wrote about a magical experience I had while in the British Isles.  Enjoy!

We sailed across
the Irish sea
on the ferry between
Cairnryan and Larne

Reboarded our coach
and rode into
the Emerald Isle
along Ballymena Road

And the first thing I saw
serene and gleaming
alongside the way
looking right at me

A white mare
… or not.

All the stories
flooded back to me
as tears filled my eyes
and in a blink we were past

Beagle’s explanation
that we humans
who’ve lost magick
would not see her clearly

The song that tells
how they were lost
in the flood
(except maybe in Ireland)

The night before
we’d been to Stirling Castle
in Scotland
where the Tapestries are

I didn’t get a photo of her
but the image will be
seared in my memory
until the day I die

A bit of Irish magic
I will carry with me forever

At the top of the post I featured a detail image from the Tapestries I mention, and above is a beautiful commissioned painting from American professional artist Renae De Liz, who was responsible for the amazing graphic novel of The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle.  (You can see more artwork from the story at my longer post here.)

Next up is another short post (hopefully by tomorrow!) when I’ll be featuring photos I took of the dragons of Cardiff Castle in Wales, and then I’ll be caught up again!

Then to keep my calendar on track, I’ll have another short post next week, then the week of Aug. 12 will be the August Birthstone Dragons, then another short post so I can get some writing done, and I’ll wrap up August with a true Writing Thoughts post, so stay tuned!
