Hi hi hi! We’re on to the second quarter of the April AtoZ Challenge 2018! This awesome How to Train Your Dragon 2 fanart is called Hi Mom by Canadian professional artist Tapwing, featuring Hiccup riding Toothless, and his mother Valka riding Cloudjumper.
This year I’ve challenged myself to not use any of my favorite artists (those I’ve featured more than once), and I thought I should also limit myself to only one HTTYD fanart as well! So hi again, Toothless, but I guess we won’t see you ’til May! 😉
Some of Tapwing’s fans had a discussion in the comments about the possibility of a four-winged dragon like Cloudjumper being able to fly, and I liked TheWatcherofWorlds‘ notes:
They are shown to be able to fuse their wings, so I think they open them when they have enough height. And its ‘X-wings’ beat up and down in sync, probably used for extremely tight turns, maneuvers and for hovering. Plus they might have hollow bones or flight bladders filled with gasses (also used for breathing fire) or something like that. …
Nature isn’t constrained by man’s lack of imagination — with the right adaptations almost everything’s possible…
All good points! When Tapwing isn’t drawing HTTYD fanart, she’s very busy drawing all sorts of other dragons and Pokemon, and also dinosaur fanart for the Steam game The Isle! Described as “an open-world survival game where players choose from three factions [(dinosaurs, humans, and primitives)] in an attempt to survive a fierce island. Hunt. Prey. Survive.” Some of Tapwing’s designs have even been incorporated into the game! You can check out her gallery and follow her on Tumblr for more.
I’m keeping it simple this year with my theme of “Odds and Ends Dragons” — amazing artwork by artists I’ve come across in past searches, but wasn’t able to find a spot for at the time. Read more at my Theme Post.
All of these AtoZ posts should appear around 9:05 AM CT (-5 GMT) each day Monday through Saturday. For even more dragons, check out my 2016 and 2017 posts!
Thanks for reading, take care, and stay creative!
I wonder if that approach (to training) would work? Hmmm….

“Are you leaving the house after curfew again son?” LOL. And yes Cloudjumper is one of my favorite types of dragons in HTTYD.
