AtoZ 2018 – V is for Vine Dragon by Claudya Schmidt

I can’t believe how wrapped up I’ve gotten in this April AtoZ Challenge 2018!  We’re nearing the finish line, but not before we check out this Vine Dragon by German professional artist Claudya Schmidt, posting as AlectorFencer.

She talks in her caption about how this was a submission to an art book, but the deadline mysteriously changed overnight, so she challenged herself to complete this in less than three hours!  Despite the rush, I think it’s grand!

Well, grand may not be the word, exactly… as one fan pointed out in the comments, “That’s either a very big vine… or a teeny-tiny little dragon!”   And another wrote, “I’m imagining the dragon saying ‘I am a dragon! Hear me roar! ROARRRRR!‘ in a high pitched cute voice.”  🙂

I still haven’t decided on what the huge dragons, the tiger-sized drakes, and the tiny dragons in my book Finding Dragons look like exactly, but perhaps this is another piece of inspirational artwork I’ll come back to later!

So far, this is only the second time in this challenge that I’m sharing an artist that I’ve featured once before, but when I saw this as I was looking for a V dragon, I couldn’t resist!  And it’s been a while — I first found AlectorFencer’s work as part of a collaboration with fellow artist akeyla on a great piece called The Paper Dragon in July 2016.

Be sure to check out more of AlectorFencer’s work in her deviantart gallery and follow her on Twitter and Instagram.  You can also check out her graphic novel Myre – Chronicles of Yria Vol. 1 — a work in progress I mentioned back in 2016, which is now available to order!

I’m keeping it simple this year with my theme of “Odds and Ends Dragons” — amazing artwork by artists I’ve come across in past searches, but wasn’t able to find a spot for at the time.  Read more at my Theme Post.

All of these AtoZ posts should appear around 9:05 AM CT (-5 GMT) each day Monday through Saturday.  For even more dragons, check out my 2016 and 2017 posts!

Thanks for reading, take care, and stay creative!

    • Ah, hahaha… you can read part of it at the Neeka’s Story link in the menu (along the top, or in the three bars drop down) but sadly it’s a little bit on hold while I work on other stuff right now… I do want to finish it someday tho, so stay tuned!
